 How Good Will 'Sideways' Be?
« Thread Started on Jul 20, 2004, 8:13am »

I haven't read the book, but I'm thinking about it. I'm just wondering how the movie will contrast.
At Joblo.com, they're saying that the release date is October 20th 2004, Wide Release. At other sites they're saying November 10th 2004, Limited Release.
I'd stick with Joblo. They know what they're talking about.
MovieWeb.com is saying October 20th and Limited Release.
Now, I remember from the beginning that Fox Searchlight has been planning a wide release. Why wouldn't the publishing company release the book and obviously advertise the movie on the cover if it wasn't going to be a wide release?
Also, a few minor details have been changed, like the name of Thomas Haden Church's character, who was originally Jack Cole and for the movie his name became Jack Pitcairn, or Pitcam, depending on the source.

my guess is, it'll probably be in limited release on Oct. 20th and then maybe go into wide release on Nov. 10th ???

I don't know... I think that the other Fox Searchlight movie Napoleon Dynamite was released at the end of June and it's coming out as Wide Release this Friday... which makes it three weeks in Limited and this week it's going Wide.
By the way, make an effort to see Napoleon Dynamite if you can. It may have the trailer for Sideways, plus it looks like a cool movie itself (I also want to see Catwoman. Spiderman 2 was okay... the only part I liked was Hal Sparks in the elevator).
Both the November 10th and October 20th have been listed as limited on some websites. November would be too close to Winter, so that would totally defeat the purpose of saying "Coming Fall 2004" on the Sideways graphic on the Fox Searchlight official Sideways page.

Don't say that if you live in Maine. As far as we Mainers are concerned, Winter starts on October 31st and ends in April.

My understanding is there will be an LA Premiere Oct 12 (it premiered in Santa Barbara Sept 18 to an invite-only audience).. then nationwide Oct 20 but I don't know if that date means everywhere or selected..

Limited. There's a debate on some of the entertainment sites about it being wide release either around Thanksgiving or Christmas. I'm betting January 16th. My birthday.

I saw it on Thanksgiving weekend, but I'm hoping for wide release so I can see it again before it goes to DVD.

I am so happy! Finally Sideways will be here in the boonies of South Texas on Friday, Jan 28! Spouse has agreed to make it a date! I can't wait.

Cool! Make sure to go out for some Pinot Noir after :) I would have, but I need to wait a year to turn 21.

Great Film. I really enjoyed it. All spouse wanted to do was drink wine afterwards. The "chase scene" had us laughing for a very long time afterwards. Hope it wins some awards.

I'm dragging my grandmother to see it tomorrow (She barely goes to the movies. She waits to watch 'em on Starz). Of course to see it again and because I want everybody I know to see it! I can't believe that it is FINALLY in wide release! I'll end up spending all my money on seeing Sideways!

Unfortunately my job interview didn't fall through. Too bad because I would have been payed $7.50 an hour.
Oh well. Time to start looking again!
